about

"Christians should be the first people to acknowledge pain and suffering as real. We should be the first to say that death is wrong. I consider the book of Ecclesiastes to be a lament over the fleeting nature of life, it’s honest. Even Jesus wept so it is no sin to be upset (John 11:35). Thankfully we have the good news of a one who will comfort us, who has been there, experienced what we have experienced and is also God (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14)." This a snippet of a blog post that explains the song which can be found here: citylight.church/music/2018/11/29/near-to-us-prince-of-peace-theology/

‘Prince of Peace’ is CityLight Music’s second recording. It was recorded in 2018 at a women’s worship night in which the women of CityLight gathered to worship God and record songs written primarily by the women of the church.

lyrics

Although death devastates
leaves clamour in its wake
and the heaviness is more than hearts can hold

There is a counsellor to seek
whose ragged holes in hands and feet
bear witness to a love that mends the soul

Our Prince of Peace
Our steadfast hand
You are the oil and balm of Gilead

You soothe our aching bones
and our wretched souls
Our Prince of Peace
The Son of Man

Although storms take their toll
leave unrest in hollow hulls
and it feels we are adrift in endlessness

There is a servant on a cross
losing more than we have lost
who can lavish everlasting peace and rest

Our Prince of Peace
Our steadfast hand
You are the oil and balm of Gilead

You heal our broken homes
and our grieving souls
Our Prince of Peace
Our servant Lord

When the sun has set its last
All the years have left their mark
all my failures and triumphs have turned to nought

There is a father who outlasts
Who has turned his face to us
who will gather all the saints his love has bought

Our Prince of Peace
Our steadfast hand
You are the oil and balm of Gilead

You soothe our aching bones
and our wretched souls
Our Prince of Peace
The Son of Man

Our Prince of Peace
Our steadfast hand
You are the oil and balm of Gilead

You heal our broken homes
and our grieving souls
Our Prince of Peace
Our servant Lord
